Learned From Mistake...

It was January 2007 and I was in Seattle. The power went down in the whole city because of some heavy winds. I was in my room at that time and was busy working on my laptop. I kept working, thinking the power will be back in some time, just as it happens in India ;). But that did not happen. I thought that let me continue work and enjoy songs till the battery allows. As soon as the battery vanished, the machine went down into hibernation.

Next morning, there was still no restoration of power. I thought to go to closest Microsoft building, charge the laptop and check up my mails. There were very few points in which power was available and most of the people were sitting there. I put the plug in socket and booted the machine. Because it was in hibernation, it resumed its saved state.

Suddenly, I said..."Damn!" The songs were still running at highest volume. And Himesh's Dil Vich Lagya Ve was all over the place. That song has such high beats that the whole floor was shivering! I tried shutting down the machine; I tried to login; I tried by closing the lid of the laptop - but to no effect. It went on and on and on...because there were so many applications running on it, it took long time to allow me to login. A girl sitting there started dancing on the beats; others were staring at me. Somehow, I was able to login and stop it. I wrapped up my work as soon as possible and left from there! That was actually very embarrasing!! Only relief - atleast one girl enjoyed it!

Last Saturday, I had an appointment with someone. I was carrying my laptop and was supposed to show him few things on it. I sent a message from the reception and was waiting outside. I don't know how, but the thought crossed my mind, "Damn!! Laptop is in hibernation mode and I have not switched off the songs." Immediately, I took it out from the bag, plugged in the headphone and then switched it on. While it was booting, I was called in. Because it's a better config machine now, so it came up in a 6-7 seconds. I immediately closed the Winamp and saved myself from another embarrasment - though its implications could have been more serious than just embarrasment!!!

I came out from the meeting and said, "Thank God! I am gonna switch off the music before hibernation, EVERYTIME from now onwards." :)
